Ex-Houston Astro Lance Berkman Makes Sure We All Know What A Douche He Is

The former player called trans women "troubled men" in an ad attacking Houston's LGBT rights bill.

Lance Berkman, a former outfielder with the Houston Astros, is worried we didn’t know what a jacka** he is. So he recorded a radio spot attacking Houston’s equal-right ordinance, warning it would allow “troubled men” to creep on girls in the locker room.

“No men in women’s bathrooms, no boys in girls’ showers or locker rooms,” Berkman says in the ad. “I played professional baseball for 15 years, but my family is more important. My wife and I have four daughters. Proposition 1, the bathroom ordinance, would allow troubled men to enter women’s public bathrooms, showers and locker rooms. This would violate their privacy and put them in harm’s way.”

Boiling down LGBT protections to a mythical stalker who haunts ladies’ bathrooms is a favorite tactic of the homophobic right: Michelle Duggar recorded a robocall making similar claims about a measure in Arkansas, even though there’s been zero cases of trans people attacking anyone in a bathroom.

As for Berkman, we’ll let Keith Olbermman respond

The Houston Equal Rights Ordinance is up for a public vote on November 3.
