"This is consensual sex, no one is being trafficked or exploited."

Yesterday, dozens of demonstrators marched outside the federal courthouse in Brooklyn, protesting the recent raid on Rentboy.com that saw the escort site’s CEO and a half-dozen employees arrested.

Protestors carried signs reading “Sex work is real work” and “Stop the arrests” as they chanted “Keep your laws off my body.”

Andy Humm, a former city rights commissioner told the Daily News “This is consensual sex, no one is being trafficked or exploited.” Humm, like many, wondered about the timing of the raid.

“Tell me why this happened now when Rentboy.com has been around 18 years and had a float in the Gay Pride Parade that the police commissioner and the mayor attended.”

Others questioned why Homeland Security was involved. U.S. Attorney Kelly Currie would only say cybercrime falls under its purview.

For most, the goal is to decriminalize sex work, thereby making it safer and more lucrative for workers themselves. They also hope to address the underlying issues that may lead someone to become an escort.
