The U.S. Department of Justice confirmed this afternoon that the “largest online male escort service” aka RentBoy.com had been raided. As a consequence, Rent Boy CEO Jeffrey Hurant and six of his employees were arrested in New York. What the FUCK?!
The news of the shutdown and arrests has made it across all types of media outlets. From gay porn blogs to Time Magazine, to NBC News. Sensationalism? Maybe!
For the record, prostitution in ancient Rome and Greece was legal, public, and widespread. Oh, and in the United States, prostitution was originally widely legal. Sadly, today prostitution in the United States is illegal, except in some rural counties in the state of Nevada. However, prostitution obviously occurs in most parts of the country in various forms.
For those familiar with Rent Boy, you know that many of the ‘sex workers’ are the same gay porn stars that we jack-off too on gay porn sites! With model fees for shooting porn dropping over the past few years, escorting has become a way for them to actually make some cash. Yea, so the connection is often sexual but sometimes it’s not.. but it’s always consensual. We’re adults! Why can’t I decide on my own how to use my money?!
I personally know and am friends with gay porn stars who escort. And, the news today has a lot of them concerned about tomorrow. Will they be charged next by the government? Should they continue escorting to make a living? Will their friend Jeffrey and the Rent Boy team be okay? (Seeing as to how they are now facing up to five years in prison.)
Thankfully Jeffrey was released on a $350,000 bond after a court appearance. Outside the courthouse, he said, “I think we do good things for good people, and bring good people together.” I AGREE JEFF!
On a side note, what pisses me off the most is when I find injustice and hypocrisy within our justice system.
If you followed the details on the recent conviction of Jarec Wentworth on multiple extortion charges last month, you’ll know what I’m talking about. Donald A. Burns, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Magicjack Vocaltec Ltd admitted in court and under oath that he had solicited and paid for sex with male escorts. As of today, no government press release on charges or the arrest of Donald have been made. THIS GUY WAS IN COURT AND ADMITTED THIS IN FRONT OF A JUDGE AND A JURY! WTF?!
Don’t get me wrong .. in my opinion Mr. Burns should be able to rent all the boys he wants for fuck’s sake! How could giving someone some cash in exchange for some “companionship” be so WRONG?
