Gay-Themed Horror Film “PYOTR495″ Brings A Twist To Russian Homophobia

They messed with the wrong guy
From: NewNowNext
Russia’s LGBT propaganda law has led to brutal hate crimes and forced LGBT Russians to fear walking the streets, let alone live openly. But Canadian filmmaker Blake Mawson is hoping to bring a fresh approach to the issue with the short horror film PYOTR495:

“Set one evening in present-day Moscow, 16 year-old Pyotr is baited by an ultranationalist group known for their violent abductions and attacks bolstered by Russia’s LGBT propaganda law, but Pyotr has a dangerous secret his attackers could never have accounted for…”

An IndieGoGo Campaign has been set up to raise funds. Principal photography has been completed, but donations will go towards post-production costs, clearance fees, etc.

Why make a horror film about this tragic situation? The filmmakers explain:

“PYOTR495 speaks to anyone who has ever been victimized or discriminated against for being different and to make a statement about the dangerous trend of fear-mongering and inciting hatred in our society. We’ll mesh the classic tropes of the horror genre with the topic of repression and violence towards LGBT people, in an effort to provoke thought and discussion around social anxieties towards the state of gay rights.”
