Recrudescence: Charles by Pierre Jean

From: Favorite Hunks & Other Things

'As a photographer, I am interested in how the relationship between the camera and the model can capture an essence that transcends plain portraiture. I am also interested in abstract "bodyscapes". I like to work with uninhibited models open to exploration.'

I was first introduced to photographer Pierre Jean was back in 2011, while putting together a series of posts on model. Samuel Boux Since then, I have often returned to admire the Montreal artists work. I love Pierre's use of the term bodyscape as it so beautifully describes the the beautiful lines and shapes he creates within his images. Pierre often contrasts the lines of body with another shape, often a square, a block or frame which acts as a support, complimenting the model.

On my most recent revisit of Pierre's work, it was not the lines or bodyscapes that drew me a particular set of images. It was also not the Game Of Thrones feel to some of the images. My compulsion to feature Pierre's work with model and artist Charles Lemelin Gladu was all about his incredible blue eyes. Soulful, Charles eyes ground each image in artist sorrow, not quite sad, but more thoughtful as if absorbed in creative musings. I also love the 24 year old's long hair, especially how he pulls it back, beautifully completes the look of a tired and tortured young artist.

'Tout d'abord, en plus d'être un modèle très expressif, je suis aussi sculpteur, maroquinier(travail du cuir) et tatoueur. Je travaille également dans les décors et accessoires de films.'

Charles says he adore everything related to role playing and costumes, especially post-apocalyptic and the medieval theme used in part of his shoot with Pierre. Charles creates and makes may of the costumes used in his shoots and you can see more of his costumes, and work as a tattoo artist, on his facebook page HERE: Charles won't be putting together too many costumes this summer as he is spending most of it outside, planting tree's to better the environment.
