Days 5 and 6: Oceanbound

From: Marlen Boro
A long and beautiful drive to the coast yesterday. It’s becoming clear that an Oregon journey is never quick, but it will always be beautiful. Traveling west took us through hours of steep hills and valleys, alongside rivers, through so many moss-covered trees. Little dairy farms tucked into valleys were dotted with grazing cows (many are likely suppliers for the Tillamook cheese cooperative). It felt like Switzerland.

We arrived at the Dunes National Recreation Area late in the day, but the campground was still a few miles from the beach and since the light was fading fast we settled in for drizzly/rainy night. Buster hung out in his little kennel while Jen and I ate cheese beneath the RV’s retractable awning.

Today we finally saw the ocean. It was hazy and chilly, but amazing nonetheless.

The Oregon coast is just how I dreamed it might be. Majestic, and a touch mysterious.
