JASON OF SPUNK WORTHY FAME
I’m fascinated by the inner workings of a gay porn site. While Lawrence favored his chat with Dominic Ford on his own list, I’ve got to show some love for Spunk Worthy founder Jason. We became tighter over the year after I asked him a really inappropriate question, which is far less inappropriate than what I plan on doing to his mouth if we ever meet in person. (Hint! Jason told us more about Spunk Worthy‘s decision to produce hardcore anal scenes. Though I never really got to ask him how fans reacted to the first release with Nicholas and Scottie, I’m going to take a wild guess that this evolution was welcomed with wide open arms. Tons of sites claim to feature “straight” guys doing things for the “first” time. Spunk Worthy is one of few that actually delivers in this regard, adding a much-needed dose of reality to the fetishization of heterosexual men.
I got a tip recently that Spunk Worthy, the site known largely for uncomfortable-looking straight guys getting handjobs—not a bad thing—had a big announcement to make, so today I talked to the site’s founder Jason about what he’s doing and why he’s doing it now. We also talked about fish ecology, which I’ve trimmed from the final interview, but which I thought was worth a mention, anyway.
So Jason! I hear you have some big news for us.
Yeah, we’re releasing our first-ever hardcore scene this Friday, October 4th. It’s been a long time coming. This is our first scene, and we’ve got a couple of others in the can.
What brought that on?
Nicholas, the top, contacted me looking for more work, and this was the next obvious step. He’d gone from jerking off to a handjob to getting a blowjob already. He met the bottom, Scottie, doing a shoot for My Straight Buddy, so they were comfortable together.
And how was that? For you and for the straight guys?
I don’t know if you know this: getting one guy set up for a shoot is hard, and getting two models set up is five times as hard. You’d think it would be twice as hard, but it’s exponential. Honestly, I don’t know how some sites do it, that are just one guy, and they get it done every week. But It went amazingly smoothly.
I’ve been on other shoots for other companies where scenes have lasted six to eight hours. It helped that my two guys knew each other already, and I also had someone helping me out. I couldn’t have asked for an easier shoot. Scottie, the guy who bottomed, I’m sure he enjoyed it. Nicholas, I’m sure he would never ever admit to it, but if you watch the scene, you can see that he was clearly having fun. Scotty finished first, with Nicholas still inside, and the sight of that made Nicholas pull out and cum all over Scotty’s stomach. He’ll still swear up and down that he has no curiosity about guys, though.
I imagine it’s not the easiest working with straight guys…
A lot of it is just getting the guy comfortable. Take Dean, whose massage scene we released on Monday. It wasn’t his first time shooting with me, but he was shaking he was so nervous. “Will you be rubbing my chest and stuff?” I told him I’d be rubbing a lot more than that. He was worried he wouldn’t be able to get hard, and what if his friends found out. I told him to ask his friends what they were doing watching gay porn. Sometimes, it’s two full hours of getting the guy comfortable. By that time, they’re usually way more calmed down. We’re actually releasing some outtakes from Dean’s massage on Monday, where you see that we had to stop because he was going to cum too soon.
A lot of the guys are surprised, and they close their eyes and then they’re fine. It’s usually ten times better than they ever expected. But usually with their first time, it’s a huge mental leap. Then, once they get past that, it’s easier to get them to ease up on other things. It’s funny, though. I just got this one marine guy who said he’d be willing to top. And when I told him he’d probably have to blow the other guy, he backed down. People have these weird mental blocks where certain things are okay and others are out of the question.
Yeah, I was actually just talking about that with our Manhunt Man of the Week. Have you ever had problems?
Nicholas actually got found out by someone in his unit, and there was a lot of drama. He wanted all of his scenes taken down, but apparently, it blew over and he’s back in front of the camera. It’s one of the things about military guys, they’re all so curious, but at the same time, they’re all so homophobic.

Approaching Marines to do gay porn, even solos and handjobs, must be tough. How did you get started?
The first guy that I approached was just running an ad on Craigslist looking for girls. Lately, I’ve got more guys coming to me than me going out and scouting. But one of the cool things about living in San Diego is that you’ve got three or four major universities, multiple marine bases and navy bases, and then there’s the whole beach culture. It’s a really good place to be shooting porn, for sure.
When the site started, it was all solos. Then it was handjobs, and then I added blowjobs. I actually got a lot of complaints about that from people who thought the blowjobs ruined the concept that they’re all straight. Which they are. Then I added myself to the scenes, and that went over really well, better than I expected. Two or three years ago, I finally broke down and showed my face. I thought I’d get complaints about that, but I didn’t.
I think a lot of us secretly wish we were making porn, but how did you decide on this style?
I was 18 or 19. I saw this Dirk Yates video of a marine jerking off, and I thought this would be my dream job. And then I was in a relationship, then grad school, and as I was graduating, I thought what the fuck, I’ll do it, just as a fun experiment, to see if I could pull it off. Two shoots turned into more, and then I started putting out DVDs, and slowly got more and more serious about it. Then I launched the site about five years ago. It’s still a relatively small site. And it’s been fun. I like meeting guys that I would not have otherwise gotten to know. And as I was finishing my PhD with limited job prospects, it turned into a career.
Back when I launched the site, people told me it was the worst possible time to launch a site. But it’s been slowly growing, steadily. I definitely like fitting a niche, to be a little different than the bigger sites. Ten years ago, it was totally possible to run a solo site, but now sites have more content and more frequent updates, and they’re more extreme, and everybody does bareback now. So this step to go hardcore is extreme for me. But I’m a little behind the curve, maybe.
