TOP 50 SCI-FI/FANTASY FILMS OF THE 80′S!

The Abyss

Viewed by most as James Cameron‘s most underrated film (Wrong! That would be Pirahna 2: The Spawning), The Abyss had some absolutely wonderful things going for it. The special effects were top notch (especially the water tentacle), it had a couple of thrilling set pieces, and the giant tidal wave is still awesome (although I still laugh when I see the extras on the beach running from it. Seriously .. you think you can get away from a 1,000 foot wave? Sure, just hide behind the concession stand.) But it also had some problems. The Michael Biehn character became an over-the-top cliche, and the “stop hurting yourselves” ending was pure alien schmaltz.
