Fake PAC Targets Gay New Orleans Traffic Judge Candidate

From: The Bilerico Project
Openly gay New Orleans traffic court judge candidate Richard Perque was hit with a homophobic last week featuring a photo of him posing with a man in their swimsuits and the messages, "Before you even consider voting for this individual for judge, think about it long and hard," and "Warning: Please keep out of the sight of children."

The hit piece is supposedly from the "Committee for Common Decency," but there is no PAC registered in the state of Louisiana under that name. No return address or contact information is printed on the flier.

Perque, the scion of a long line of prominent lawyers and politicians, is an active member of the Louisiana Association for Justice and the American Association for Justice and has been endorsed by both the Young Democrats and the Log Cabin Republicans.

The judge's position is considered a lucrative plum in New Orleans. The job pays six figures but since it is classified as a part-time position, it allows the winner to continue to practice law. It is often considered a stepping stone to higher political office.
