“The Emperor’s New Clothes”

Sinead hit the Hot 100 twice, with the first, of course, being the worldwide megahit “Nothing Compares 2 U.” That Prince smash was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and Sinead was never going to be a “here’s my latest hit” kind of artist, so it’s no surprise that her chart life was limited. Her followup “The Emperor’s New Clothes” tried mightily, but could get higher than #60 in July 1990. The video, however, is one of my favorites of the decade, as Sinead seems to be channeling a baby penguin zapped with a cattle prod.
