1990's Gay Magazines

The 1990s showed a shift in gay beefcake in magazines. There continued to be a split between nude/some simulated sex magazines as opposed to hardcore ones. There also emerged gay "workout" magazines that were a throwback to the 1940s and 1950s physique magazines with a strong gay undercurrent under the guise of helping with physical fitness routines. The 1990s also saw an explosion in gay photography books on nudes. Although these had existed since the 1970s, the number of books published jumped by a huge amount during the 1990s as the stigma surrounding homosexuality began to wane and publishers became less scared about publishing homosexual themed books.
