Following the legal changes that allowed for full frontal nudity in the 1960s, gay magazines found beefcake didn't sell as well as fully naked gay magazines. However, the transition from beefcake to full nudity didn't happen overnight and took the first part of the seventies to completely change over. As the seventies wore on the even non-hardcore magazines were starting to feature some simulated sex.
