A very small group of loved ones said their goodbyes to Glee star Cory Monteith on Tuesday with a private viewing that was attended by Cory’s mother, Ann, girlfriend and fellow Glee co-star Lea Michele and his brother Shaun on Tuesday.
The 31-year-old’s body was then cremated following the small ceremony.
Unfortunately, his father Joe was unable to attend — he and Ann separated years ago and apparently wasn't even made aware of his son’s funeral arrangements.
“I always loved both my sons and am going to miss Cory very very much”, he said in a statement. “I’m saddened at the fact that I couldn't have been there to see my son before he was cremated.”
Following the surprising discovery that the young man died of a “mixed toxicity” of heroin and alcohol, more of his Glee co-stars have spoken out about him and his all-too-soon passing, including actress Dianna Agron (Quinn Fabray), who released one of the most beautiful statements about the man who once played her love interest.
“Cory is so deserving of that place in everyone’s hearts. He was one of the most generous and kind people that I have ever met”, she said. “We will always carry a piece of you with us.”
