June 23, 1868 – 

Prototype of the Sholes and Glidden typewriter, 1873,
 the first commercially successful typewriter,
and the first with a QWERTY keyboard.

Typewriter: Christopher Latham Sholes received a patent for an invention he called the "Type-Writer."
