Scary things at the Jersey Shore

From:  The Grand Rapids Press

Apparently I’m not the only one who loves boring, goofy and otherwise awful postcards.
I've had a handful of columns showing off my collection of horrible postcards. But I've been collecting these things for years, and there are so many more to inflict upon you.

It might be fun to amuse or frighten you by posting one card a week.

And if you come across a postcard that is so hideous or humdrum that you want to share it, email me a scan or send me the card and we’ll post it for all to see.

We've had fun in the past looking at views that are not exactly what the Pure Michigan folks are looking to promote, and even had some fun in Grand Rapids.
Now, we’re going nationwide.

I’m starting with New Jersey, because poking fun at the Garden State is something that comes naturally to New Yorkers like me. It’s a skill passed down from generation to generation, like using the car horn as basic communication.

That’s one of the reasons I love this New Jersey Shore postcard. What is this thing? Seriously. Not even Snooki and Mike “The Situation” are this scary.

I imagine New Jersey Convention and Visitors Bureau staffers meeting with their marketing consultants. Half the folks want a billboard to sell the “NJ & You, Perfect Together” slogan, and the other half want a mascot, you know, something the kids would like.

The marketing folks, perhaps wanting to keep everyone happy, offer a solution: Let’s do both!

That’s the only thing I can think of to explain this monstrosity.
