The most famous movie "Superman" was this classically trained stage actor, who spent his career trying to avoid taking easy, commercial roles and wound up missing out on some iconic movie parts and missing the boat to true movie stardom. His horse-riding accident, which left him paralyzed, captivated the world, as did the nearly 10 years he lived with his disability before dying unexpectedly. Watching him in movies now is a bittersweet experience—his physical beauty was captured forever, but it's impossible to forget how it came to an end.
