In the latest episode of Whatcha Packin’, squirrel friend Michelle Visage talks to this week’s axed RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant, Aja, about his season 9 journey—and why he’s so glad he didn’t make the cut after auditioning for an earlier season.
The Brooklyn native also discusses growing up queer in a rough ’hood where he got regularly harassed in the streets. “It was really hard,” he says, “but it also toughens you up.”
Aja, who had a legendary Untucked read remixed into a dance track, says he ultimately let himself down. “I expected more from myself,” he says. “I just feel like I should’ve had a better attitude. I was also just really intimidated—not by the girls but just the entire competition, and I didn’t expect that.”
