Favorite Broadway Actor of the Day:June 10, 2008

Patrick Wilson
From: Favorite Hunks & Other Things
Continuing  with my favorite Broadway Actors, today is one of my favorite actors on stage, on TV or movies, Patrick Wilson.

I could post on Patrick Wilson every day, between that smile, that singing voice, that bod, Patrick is one of my all time favorites. Oh how I would have loved to have been in New York in 2000 when Patrick was on Broadway doing The Full Monty. Patrick was also nominated for a Tony for this role. I always hoped PBS would have filmed this for TV, but alas, no luck unless someone knows differently. Anyway, I could watch Patrick in anything, he is so good, but the closest we seem to have is the 2000 Tony Award performance which I am sure any Patrick fan has seen before, but I added it below. Quality is better than my old VHS version. Anyone lucky enough to have seen this show 8 years ago?

Patrick Joseph Wilson (born July 3, 1973) is an American actor and singer. Wilson has spent years singing lead roles in major Broadway musicals, beginning in 1996. In 2003, he appeared in the HBO miniseries Angels in America. Wilson has appeared in feature films such as The Alamo, The Phantom of the Opera, Little Children, Watchmen, The A-Team, The Ledge, Insidious, and The Conjuring. He starred in the CBS drama series A Gifted Man, which premiered in 2011 and was cancelled in 2012.

Wilson was born in Norfolk, Virginia. He is the son of Mary Kay Wilson, a voice teacher and professional singer, and John Wilson, a news anchor for WTVT in Tampa, Florida. Wilson's brother, Mark, also works as a news anchor and reporter for WTVT. He grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Circa 2000, Wilson completed work on the film My Sister's Wedding, which has never been released. He sang "On the Street Where You Live" from My Fair Lady for Julie Andrews' awards ceremony when she received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2001. He won critical acclaim for his performance in Mike Nichols' 2003 drama HBO mini-series Angels in America. He received both a Golden Globe nomination and an Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He played Joe Pitt, a closeted Mormon Republican.

Wilson made his first film appearance in The Alamo in 2004. In the same year, Wilson appeared in the film musical The Phantom of the Opera as Raoul. In 2006, he had his first starring film role when he was cast as Brad Adamson in Todd Field's Little Children. The same year, he appeared in the Golden Globe-nominated Running With Scissors as Michael Shephard. In 2008, he starred in Neil LaBute's Lakeview Terrace. Wilson played Dan Dreiberg / Nite Owl II in Zack Snyder's 2009 film adaptation of the graphic novel Watchmen, gaining 25 pounds for the role after filming flashback scenes as the slimmer Nite Owl II. This film reunited Wilson with his Little Children co-star, Jackie Earle Haley.

On October 19, 2010, in Yankee Stadium, he sang "God Bless America" during the seventh-inning stretch of Game 4 of the American League Championship Series between the Texas Rangers and the New York Yankees. On November 20, 2010, in Yankee Stadium, he sang the United States National Anthem before the first football game in the new stadium, played between Army and Notre Dame. Wilson played the primary antagonist Lynch in 2010's The A-Team and co-stars with Rose Byrne in James Wan's horror film Insidious.

In May 2012, Wilson gave the Keynote address for his Alma Mater, Carnegie Mellon University, in which he spoke of his memories from childhood and through his career. May 26, 2012, Wilson and his brothers, Mark and Paul, performed a benefit concert for Southeastern Guide Dogs' "Paws For Patriots" program in St. Petersburg, Florida. They raised $30,000 for the program that provides guide dogs to visually impaired veterans, veteran service dogs to veterans living with post-traumatic stress, and facility therapy dogs to major military medical facilities. Southestern Guide Dogs honored Wilson and his brothers by naming three guide dog puppies for them.

In 2014, Wilson was cast in a unspecified role in the forthcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film Ant-Man.

On June 18, 2005, Wilson married Polish-American actress Dagmara Dominczyk, also a Carnegie Mellon graduate (he graduated in 1995 with a drama degree; she graduated in 1998). On June 23, 2006, Dominczyk gave birth to their son, Kalin Patrick Wilson. On August 9, 2009, they welcomed their second son, Kassian McCarrell Wilson. He currently lives in Montclair, New Jersey, with his family.
