Britney Visits LGBT Historical Society Museum in the Castro

March 31, 2011
From: Daily Squirt

It took a gay village to bring Britney Spears to San Francisco, starting with mayoral candidate Bevan Dufty and extending to bar owners, drag queens, and cheerleaders.

The saga started with Mark Robertson, a producer at ABC’s Good Morning America and a longtime friend of Dufty’s. In late 2010, Dufty said, Robertson called him to propose shooting a Britney Spears promotional video in the Castro. That set off months of discussions and negotiations. From the beginning, Dufty felt strongly that the show should feature local celebrity drag queens.

“While people may jet around Brentwood trying to spot Cameron Diaz, our drag personalities are our celebrities,” Dufty said. “They raise money constantly for different charities. They add a lot to the vitality of the Castro. I was straightforward with Mark that I felt it was really important that they be onstage and be part of the program.”

Producers for GMA asked Heklina, Sister Roma, Juanita More, Pollo del Mar, and Bay Area Reporter society columnist Donna Sachet to introduce the show Sunday, March 27 at the Bill Graham Auditorium. The mini-concert featured three songs from Spears’s new album, Femme Fatale, which was released Tuesday. (The taping was moved from the Castro due to weather concerns.) With almost no direction, the five queens improvised banter that ranged from insults to couture to an endorsement of Dufty’s mayoral bid. That segment of the show wasn’t aired, but Spears did Tweet a photo of her father posing with Heklina and Pollo.

Cheerleading troupe Cheer SF also warmed up the crowd with cheers and stunts before the main act.

In addition, Dufty pushed for the inclusion of the Lavender Youth Recreation and Information Center, which supports LGBT youth, and Larkin Street Youth Services, which supports homeless and at-risk youth. Spears was unable to visit the programs, but GMA taped segments with them and recognized the organizations on air and during the Sunday performance.

After the taping, Spears made a brief visit to the Castro, where she toured the GLBT Historical Society Museum, where she met with Supervisor Scott Wiener. She also stopped by Under One Roof, and waved to fans at Q Bar, which was in the midst of throwing a Spears-themed party. She also briefly greeted Q Bar owner John Bellemore.

Those visits were at Dufty’s recommendation, he said.

“This is huge, to have her go to the historical society,” he told the B.A.R. “A lot of the programming that they do now is to reach out to schools, and just having pictures of her there next to Harvey Milk’s bullhorn, that’s big.”

Wiener said he hoped Spears’s visit to the neighborhood would bring attention to the Castro.

“I was happy to meet Britney, but I was much more happy about the fact that her visit to the Castro and the museum will bring publicity to the neighborhood,” Wiener said. “This is an amazing neighborhood with a rich and storied history. Anything that showcases our neighborhood to the country and the world is a good thing.”

In addition to raising the profile of local personalities, venues, and nonprofits, the event was a moneymaker for Under One Roof. For several days preceding the taping, the retail shop displayed a wax Britney likeness in the window – courtesy of the Wax Museum at Fisherman’s Wharf – and encouraged fans to take their picture with it in exchange for a donation.

The statue was removed just prior to her visit.

Dufty also estimated that 40 to 50 people were hired locally to work at the event.

With the excitement of the visit fading, Dufty now looks forward to the city’s next big musical guest. With no major problems and the crowds feeling generally upbeat, he considers the experience a huge success.

“I hope to do more of it,” he said. “I met with a lady at Jive Records and I hope to follow up.”

At the top of his wish list for future visitors: Rihanna and Diana Ross

23 Centimeters Indeed! – Joaquín Ferreira goes fully frontal in new play

From: Bent
It appears Joaquín Ferreira can’t keep it in his pants – not that we’re complaining. After appearing full frontal in the Mexican Netflix series Club de Cuervos last year (which you can see pictures of here), he’s at it again, in the aptly named Mexican play 23 centímetros.

23 centímetros is a play by Ruben Lara, with Joaquín Ferreira staring from 11th July at the Calandraca Theatre in Mexico.

6 Reasons To Treat Your BF To A Sensual Massage

From: Boy Culture
Quinn Christopher Jaxon
There are numerous types of massage which can offer both the masseur and the recipient a host of benefits. While sports massages might be offered in the event of an injury, a massage to a particular area of the body could be used to break down fat cells and reduce cellulite. These are both examples of the many where one would see a therapist in a professional setting.

When the massage occurs between partners, however, it’s accepted that the benefits are less health-based and are more likely to have a positive influence on the relationship and the enjoyment the partners can give to each other.

The potential benefits of giving your boyfriend a sensual massage might include:

1
Physical benefits

Massage is widely proven to reduce tension in muscles and throughout the organs, to reduce stress levels by promoting relaxation and helps to improve blood circulation throughout the body. Blood carries with it oxygen and can aid in healing and general wellness, meaning that any enjoyment of the massage is matched with a feeling of wellbeing.

2
Release of hormones

During massage, both partners might enjoy the release of certain hormones which can have a powerful effect on them, their moods and whatever activities follow the massage. Oxytocin, progesterone and testosterone are all released during massage and other sensual activities. Oxytocin, for example, is often referred to as the “love hormone” and might make a person feel closeness to the person with them at the time.

3
Therapy

Sensual massage is often used as part of therapy when a couple haven’t been experiencing any physical connection. For example, if they’re having a time of turmoil within the relationship or have experienced change such as the birth of a baby, a massage may be suggested as a way for them to re-engage with each other, without a sexual agenda.

4
Trust and closeness

Massage is often used either as an activity between partners or as a part of foreplay because of the closeness and trust it promotes. In essence, humans are at their most trusting when they’re physically close, and during this male massage experience, the receiver has to rely on their partner to stimulate and care for them. If they can achieve this level of trust in the massage setting, it bodes well for other areas of the relationship.

5
Foreplay

In most cases, when people think of sensual massage, they see it as part of their foreplay; either on a regular basis or as a special treat. Not only can it expand the time that the couple spend with each other before getting to the “main event” but it can give them time to explore what their partner likes and finds pleasurable, allowing their physical relationship to improve.

6
Orgasm

Most people enjoy sensual massage because it allows them to achieve a prolonged and heightened orgasm. The closeness, the sensation and the fact that in many cases mutual touching is expected and well-received mean that in many cases both the masseur and the recipient will enjoy the massage and may both experience climax simply through the act of massage, prior to any actual sexual activity.

The Fog

My favorite John Carpenter film, and one of his most underrated. Halloween was such a pop culture milestone that when Carpenter presented this followup, it was met with scorn and disappointment from people who weren't expecting a classic ghost story. The opening narration from John Houseman, which leads into the fog-enshrouded coastline and the credits, is one of Carpenter’s greatest moments. And everything, from the wonderful score, to the cast of Carpenter … regulars?, works splendidly. And let me tell you how much I love the faboo Adrienne Barbeau. First, her character’s name is Stevie. Plus she had a fabulous beach house, and she had my all-time dream job … A LIGHTHOUSE DJ!
Of course, The Fog also has the dubious distinction of giving us what may be the absolute worst remake in history.

Trans Woman Sexually Assaulted In Bathroom At Stonewall Inn

According to police, a man violently groped and raped the victim.
From: NewNowNext
A trans woman was sexually assaulted in the bathroom at the historic Stonewall Inn, according to police reports.

The attack happened around 11:40 p.m. Saturday night, reports Gothamist, when the 25-year-old victim was inside a single-occupancy unisex bathroom.

The woman left the bar after the incident, but returned an hour later and called 911.

She told police that a man came into the bathroom claiming to just need to wash his hands, but proceeded to grope and rape her before fleeing.

No arrests have been made, but police are looking for a man in his 30s.

The Stonewall Inn, site of the historic Stonewall Riots of 1969, received landmark status last year.

Steve Grand And Eli Lieb Team Up For Emotional Ballad, “Look Away”

"Watching you fade / I know it’s goodbye."
From: NewNowNext
Out singer-songwriters Eli Lieb and Steve Grand appear together in a brand new video to mark the release of their new collaboration, a breakup ballad called “Look Away.”

In the video, the guys pour out heartbreaking lyrics while seated back-to-back. Tight shots of their faces are interspersed with behind-the-scenes footage from their time together in the recording studio.

“We filmed this the day after my boyfriend and I broke up, and the footage is so real and raw, that I struggled if I even felt comfortable putting it out,” Lieb told Pride.com. “I wasn’t sure I wanted everyone to see the pain I was in. But then I realized that this pain came from love and is a part of life most people experience at some point – we’ve all been there. I hope it helps remind people that pain and love are so closely related to not forget how powerful love is.”

Said Grand: “Eli is a real pro. It was a true pleasure working with someone who knows what they want creatively. Eli kept the process streamlined. Though we are in a similar line of work, our personalities are very different, which I think we really got to see throughout the day we shot the video. I’m an irreverent goofball and Eli is a more serious guy just really focused on his craft. I think it makes for an interesting collaboration.”

On social media, the guys shared shots from their time on the set of the music video.

Grand apparently had a hard time getting his video co-star to say “yaaas” but — don’t fear! — he eventually came around the next morning:

“Through The Fire”
Chaka Khan

The faboo Chaka had the biggest hit of her career with “I Feel For You,” and then never hit the top 40 again with a solo song. It wasn’t for lack of trying, though. She had plenty of chart flops (including the underrated “Love Of A Lifetime,” which can be seen on the first Lost Hits list), the most egregious of which was “Through The Fire.” Written specifically for her by David Foster, this gorgeous ballad spent a total of 19 weeks on the Hot 100, while climbing no higher than #60, an incredible chart run for such a low-charting record.

The 30 Worst Music Videos Of All Time

“Stand Back (Scarlett version)”
Stevie Nicks

Stevie has many accomplishments, but music videos have never really been her forte. They usually are straight performance clips, or they look like outtakes from “Gypsy.” In 1983 she went all out with a high concept high budget civil war clip for “Stand Back,” and the result was a catastrophe. Stevie looked extremely uncomfortable (because she was), and the entire clip was clunky and awkward. And she never got to twirl.

Let Stevie herself explain why she hated it, and scrapped the entire thing. Turns out that look of abject terror on her face as she was riding the horse was not acting.

Brickman has been a favorite of mine ever since I spotted him on a DNA cover, and then realized he was bartending across the street from me. I don't drink, but I do drink in beauty, and it would be easy to get drunk on his.

His #2015BestNine was on-point.
Brickman is a sweetheart in person, and his Instagram is a veritable Aspiration Point—he manages to flaunt his incredible body without coming off as a narcissist. Check out his disbelieving post on how he transformed his body:

He even managed to make a post about growing his hair (he rocks the man bun like few others) into a tearjerker.

Show Me Love
Lukas Moodysson
Sweden / Denmark
1998

Show Me Love is the English distribution name, for the 1998 Swedish film Fucking Åmål (pronounced [ˈfakɪŋ ˈoːmoːl]), directed by Lukas Moodysson.

The film follows the lives of two seemingly disparate teenage girls who begin a tentative romantic relationship. It first premiered outside Sweden at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival under its original title. According to Moodysson, the problem with the original title started when the film was Sweden's candidate for the Academy Awards, though eventually it was not chosen as a nominee. The Hollywood industry magazine Variety refused to run an advertisement for Fucking Åmål. Thus American distributor Strand Releasing asked for a new title. Moodysson took the new title from the song at the end of the film, by Robyn. Distributors in other native English-speaking countries then followed suit.

For writer Moodysson, it was his directorial debut in a full-length film. Starring in the lead roles were Rebecka Liljeberg, as Agnes, and Alexandra Dahlström, as Elin. The film received an overwhelmingly positive reception and won four Guldbagge Awards (Sweden's official film awards) at the 1999 ceremony. Its international awards include the Teddy award at the 1999 Berlin International Film Festival.

The Swedish title refers to the small town of Åmål in western Sweden. Only a few scenes were filmed in Åmål, and these were not included in the final version. The main shooting took place in the nearby town of Trollhättan, the location of Film i Väst's (producing company) studios.
