Elizabeth Taylor Operated A Dallas Buyers Club-Type HIV Drugs Network From Her Home
From: Queerty
"Talk about fearless in her home in Bel-Air. It was a safe house. A lot of the work that she did, it was illegal, but she was saving lives. It was in a time when it was not something to do. Business associates pleaded with her, ‘Leave this thing alone.’ She received death threats. Friends hung up on her when she asked for help, but something that I love about Elizabeth is her courage."

Five Dumbass Antigay Activists Who Unintentionally Helped Our Cause This Year

Governor Mike Pence
The Indiana governor made his state the guinea pig for “religious freedom” laws when, earlier this year, he signed a bill making it legal for businesses to discriminate against LGBTQ people. As a result, he and his fellow Republican state lawmakers’ suffered a major national backlash that ultimately ended with their approval ratings tanking and them doing a 180 by adopting a law that extended protections based on sexual orientation for the first time in the state’s history. Not only that, but other states that had been considering similar “religious freedom” bills quickly changed their minds.
The moral of the story: Sometimes stubborn social conservatives actually do learn from each other’s mistakes.

Cade's County is a modern-day Western/crime drama which aired on CBS during the 1971–1972 television season. There were 24 episodes.
Cade's County starred well-known Hollywood actor Glenn Ford as Sam Cade, the sheriff of the fictional Madrid County, a vast and sparsely populated desert area that was apparently located well inland in the American Southwest. The state in which it was located was never mentioned; it could have been California (where much of the location filming took place), Utah, Nevada, New Mexico or Arizona. Cade made occasional references to going to "Capital City" for hearings and meetings. There is a town named Madrid, New Mexico, however, it is pronounced "MAD-rid," and is not a county seat.
Cade's character was complex and interesting, though never fully developed. He came from a socially prominent and well-to-do family in the county, had served in the U.S. Navy as a fighter pilot — there was one reference to the Korean War — and had been an FBI agent, after which he returned to Madrid County to become sheriff. There were no references to a wife or close family in the series.
His chief deputy was J. J. Jackson, portrayed by the character actor Edgar Buchanan. While Cade had traveled the world, and had modern law enforcement training, Jackson had apparently spent most of his life and career in Madrid County. Writers avoided the stereotypical combination of "resistant-to-change veteran" and "newly hatched expert" – Jackson was a capable and competent right-hand man, Cade firmly in control but trusted by his people, who called him "Sam."
Together they fought to maintain law and order against violent miners, cattle thieves and other lawbreakers who, for the most part, would have seemed at home in Westerns set in any era. Cade usually drove a jeep, as many of the roads in his jurisdiction were apparently little more than tracks across the sand.
Several of the characters, including some of Cade's deputies, were native Americans. Another deputy was played by Ford's son, Pete (also the name of his character).
After summer hiatus, Cade's County was replaced in the 1972-1973 fall TV season by a new series entitled M*A*S*H. A feature-length movie assembled from several episodes of Cade's County was released in 1991 in VHS format under the title Sam Cade — Marshal of Madrid. A two-part episode, Slay Ride, was released as a television feature film, occasionally broadcast by independent television stations.
The musical theme for the show was composed by Henry Mancini. The title music appeared in an expanded version in the album Big Screen, Little Screen.

A studio audience would have helped
After all those great musical numbers, The Wiz awkwardly transitioned to commercials without so much as a “go head, queen!” A studio audience would’ve made the experience more theatrical and have helped land some of those jokes.

“Sausalito Summernight”

This exuberant, classic driving song was a favorite of my older sister, who used to crank it while she got ready for going out on Friday nights in high school. I asked her once who sang it, and she said “Duh, it’s Steve Miller, dumbass!” So it felt good years later to finally throw in her face “Ha! It was not Steve Miller, you dumb ho!” Of course, I probably could have waited for a better time (she was in labor). It was actually performed by Dutch band Diesel, who took their only charting single to #25 in November 1981

Kate Elizabeth Winslet, CBE (born 5 October 1975), is an English actress and singer. She is the recipient of an Academy Award, an Emmy Award, three Golden Globe Awards and a Grammy Award. She is the youngest person to receive six Academy Award nominations, and is one of the few actresses to win three of the four major American entertainment awards (EGOT). In addition, she has won awards from the Screen Actors Guild, British Academy of Film and Television Arts, and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association among others, and an Honorary César Award in 2012.
Brought up in Berkshire, Winslet studied drama from childhood, and began her career in British television in 1991. She made her film debut in Heavenly Creatures (1994), for which she received praise. She garnered recognition for her supporting role in Sense and Sensibility (1995) before achieving global stardom with the epic romance Titanic (1997), which was the highest-grossing film of all time at that point. Winslet's performances in Iris (2001), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004), Finding Neverland (2004), Little Children (2006), and Revolutionary Road (2008) continued to draw praise from film critics; the last of these prompted the critic David Edelstein to describe her as "the best English-speaking film actress of her generation".
She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in The Reader (2008) and the Emmy Award for Best Actress in a Miniseries for playing the title role in Mildred Pierce (2011). Winslet's greatest commercial successes since Titanic include the romantic comedy The Holiday (2006), the animated film Flushed Away (2006), and the first two films of the Divergent series.
In addition to acting, Winslet has narrated documentaries and children's books. She was awarded the Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album for Children in 2000 for narrating Listen To the Storyteller. She has also provided her vocals to soundtracks of her films, including the single "What If" from Christmas Carol: The Movie (2001). Divorced from film directors Jim Threapleton and Sam Mendes, Winslet is married to businessman Ned Rocknroll.

“Mapplethorpe: Look at the Pictures” | HBO Announces Feature Documentary on Robert Mapplethorpe
From: Accidental Bear
Robert Mapplethorpe, Self Portrait, 1980 |
HBO just announced an upcoming documentary about famed photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, who took bold and unwaveringly graphic photos depicting forms of sexual expression that were highly prone to societal scorn.
The documentary, titled Mapplethorpe: Look at the Pictures, hails from the filmmakers behind Inside Deep Throat, Fenton Bailey and Robert Barbato, and sets a precedent as the first documentary feature about Mapplethorpe since his death (due to complications from AIDS) in 1989. Look at the Pictures is made in conjunction with retrospective exhibitions opening at The J. Paul Getty Museum and The Los Angeles County Museum of Art in March, and uses the assembling of these massive exhibits as a framework for a deep dive into Mapplethorpe’s life and work.
Because the two directors had full access to The Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation’s archives, the doc will include never-before-seen footage and photos. Bailey and Barbato implied that they wanted to use their privileged access to be as revealing and candid as Mapplethorpe himself. “Even his most shocking and forbidden images are included without blurs, without snickers – in other words, exactly as the artist intended,” they said in a statement.
The film follows him from his enrollment in Pratt to his romance — which evolved into an intense friendship — with Patti Smith (documented in her memoir, Just Kids), to his photographic endeavors capturing BDSM culture in 1970s New York, to his AIDS diagnosis in 1986, to his retrospective at the Whitney in 1988 and ultimately to his death in 1989. It includes interviews with an array of people he knew, including Mary Boone, Fran Lebowitz, Debbie Harry, Carolina Herrera, Brooke Shields, Helen and Brice Marden, Bob Colacello, as well as his sister, Nancy, and brother, Edward.
The film gets its title from North Carolina Senator Jesse Helms’ denunciatory campaign about the National Endowment for the Arts’ funding of one of Robert Mapplethorpe’s exhibits of BDSM-themed photographs — a crusade that led Washington D.C.’s Corcoran Gallery to cancel his show.
With unsurprising sexism, Helms had shouted in Senate, “Look at the pictures! Look at the pictures!… Don’t believe the Washington Post! Don’t believe the New York Times! I’m going to ask that all the pages, all the ladies, and maybe all the staff leave the Chamber so that senators can see exactly what they’re voting on.”
Indeed, as a rebuttal of sorts, the film’s name and very existence implies Mapplethorpe’s power over such forces: “Look at the pictures” is, it seems, turned into an affirmative statement about the force of his work, voided of its initially disparaging meaning. The doc will debut exclusively on HBO in April of 2016.

What does one of the most successful gay underwear brands do to celebrate Pride? The obvious answer is “what they’ve been doing” and showcase a bunch of nearly naked guys in all their rainbow glory.
But for Pride 2015 they decided to take things in an arguably sexier direction — by sharing their truth. That’s right, even underwear models have feelings too, and getting to know some of these hot, young men gave us a heart-on.
