Favorite Classic TV Star: October 13, 2007

MINDY COHN
From:  Favorite Hunks & Other Things

It was her humor and the fact she was not like the other girls, more sensitive or what, but Mindy Cohn was my favorite Facts of
Life girl. Mindy should be working more in Hollywood, she was a great second banana and had line delivery second to none.

Soooooo don’t wanna get up today...

Got to love it when you check out the net on a guy you love and find he has done nudity. Christopher Meloni had a ton of nude scenes on the HBO series OZ.

Classic Television - Prime Time

All in the Family
Original channel
CBS
Original run
January 12, 1971 – April 8, 1979
Starring
Carroll O'Connor
Jean Stapleton
Rob Reiner
Sally Struthers
Danielle Brisebois
All in the Family is an American sitcom that was originally broadcast on the CBS television network from January 12, 1971, to April 8, 1979. In September 1979, a new show, Archie Bunker's Place, picked up where All in the Family had ended. That sitcom lasted another four years, ending its run in 1983.
Produced by Norman Lear and Bud Yorkin, the original pilot was titled Justice for All and was developed for ABC. Tom Bosley, Jack Warden and Jackie Gleason were all considered for the role of Archie Bunker. In fact, CBS wanted to buy the rights to the original British show and retool it specifically for Gleason, who was under contract to them, but producer Norman Lear beat out CBS for the rights and offered the show to ABC.
Carroll O'Connor and Jean Stapleton played Archie and Edith Justice. Kelly Jean Peters played Gloria and Tim McIntire played her husband, Richard. It was taped in October 1968 in New York City. After screening the first pilot, ABC gave the producers more money to shoot a second pilot titled Those Were the Days, which was taped in February 1969 in Hollywood. Candice Azzara played Gloria and Chip Oliver played Richard. D'Urville Martin played Lionel Jefferson in both pilots. After ABC turned down the second pilot, CBS developed the third pilot, titled All in the Family. This pilot had the final cast and was the series' first episode.
All in the Family revolved around the life of a working class bigot and his family. It is based on the British television comedy series Till Death Us Do Part. Despite being considerably softer in its approach than its BBC predecessor, the show broke ground in its depiction of issues previously considered unsuitable for U.S. network television comedy, such as racism, homosexuality, women's liberation, rape, miscarriage, abortion, breast cancer, the Vietnam War, menopause, and impotence. Through depicting these controversial issues, the series became arguably one of television's most influential comedic programs, as it injected the sitcom format with real-life conflicts.
The show ranked number-one in the yearly Nielsen ratings from 1971 to 1976. It became the first television series to reach the milestone of having topped the Nielsen ratings for five consecutive years, a mark later matched by The Cosby Show and surpassed by American Idol, which notched eight consecutive seasons at #1. The episode "Sammy's Visit" was ranked #13 on TV Guide's 100 Greatest Episodes of All Time. TV Guide's 50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time ranked All in the Family as #4. Bravo also named the show's protagonist, Archie Bunker, TV's greatest character of all time.  In 2013, the Writers Guild of America ranked All in the Family the fourth best written TV series ever.

Jussie Smollett

In March Empire heartthrob Jussie Smollett confirmed that he was gay to Ellen DeGeneres, saying, “there’s never been a closet that I’ve been in.”

Smollett added that, though he wasn’t interested in exposing his private life, he wanted to make a statement “so that people understood that they’re not alone.”

In a case of art imitating life, Smollet’s Empire character, Jamal Lyon, also had a coming out this year, though arguably in a much showier fashion.

Yes, last season sucked! Seeing George with Izzy was stomach turning. I loved George until the whole Washington/T.R Knight fiasco. Somehow despite wanting to side with T.R I got turned off him and his character. He was not meant to be the stud of the show. That title belongs to Alex. Justin Chambers is amazing, and knowing he is the father of 5 is even all the more sexy.

October 13th is Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day

Metastatic breast cancer is when cancer makes its way through the blood stream or lymphatic system from the breast to distant organs in a woman’s body such as the brain, liver, lungs or in the bones. Under a microscope, the cancer in the new location will look similar to the original cancer in the breast, and it is still treated as breast cancer. Metastatic disease also is referred to as stage-four or advanced breast cancer.

Fortunately today, due to heightened awareness, regular screenings and self-exams, the majority of women diagnosed with breast cancer in the early stages are cured. A small number of women (5 to 9 percent) are diagnosed with advanced disease at the time of their initial breast cancer diagnosis. There are instances, however, when breast cancer returns in another location; this can be months or many years later. Symptoms of recurrence may include bone or joint pain, a cough that won’t go away, pain or weakness, changes in bowel and bladder function, loss of appetite or weight loss.

Different kinds of tests can confirm whether the breast cancer has spread. These tests also will guide the treatment options that women and their oncologists discuss and agree upon. At this time, metastatic disease cannot be cured, but new treatments are prolonging lives far longer than any time in the past. The goal of treatment at this advanced stage is to keep the cancer under control for as long as possible, while maintaining the best quality of life for the woman.

Treatment options include chemotherapy, usually given directly into the blood to reach the cancer cells; hormonal therapy intended to slow or stop the growth of certain types of breast cancer cells; and targeted therapy, which attacks specific proteins or genes on the cancer cells which inhibit those cells ability to grow. Radiation therapy may be used to control the spreading of cancer. There also are many complementary medicine therapies such as acupuncture, massage, yoga and meditation, which may provide comfort and relief. These various therapies often are used in combination for the best effect.

Clinical trials and research studies of new therapies make this an especially promising time for women with advanced breast cancer. There are an estimated 155,000 women living with metastatic breast cancer in the U.S. – they are in the workplace, at the grocery store, carpooling, traveling and living each day as a gift. They are experiencing new challenges and opportunities. They are learning to live with uncertainty; coping with a treatment regimen and its side effects; managing pain and fear; acknowledging not only their own emotions but those of loved ones; being able to receive help and love; and looking to end-of-life decisions while living gratefully in the moment.

Ocotber 13th is International Moment of Frustration Scream Day

Moment of Frustration Day is truely a frustrating day. We believe one of the most important reasons for today, is the opportunity to let your frustrations out. If you are not frustrated, count your blessings. Don't use today to add to your frustrations. And whatever you do today, don't find new things to be frustrated about.

Are you frustrated? 'Cmon, let it out! We've got some suggestions on how to ease that moment of frustration in a harmless, healthy manner. Here are just some of them:

Go for a walk When faced with a frustrating situation, walk away from the situation. Time and distance, will often help to eliminate the frustration. The walk allows you to think about how to resolve it.
Take it outside and yell. Go out the back door, and do a little yelling. We suggest you do it away from others. Afterwards, you will feel much better.
Let your feelings out... If you need to cry, then cry.
Think.... consider what will ease or eliminate those frustrations. How can you resolve the problem?
Talk... let your feelings out to someone you can confide in. If it's a frustration about a person, talk with them. Let them know how you feel.
Seek help. Use a friend, a family member, or a professional to help you.
Important Note: We encourage you to let your frustrations out in a constructive way,  but never in an angered way. Rather, use this day to release frustrations and anger in a safe and sensible manner. Also, drinking and drugs never solves things. They can only make matters worse.

Here's wishing you a very Happy Moment of Frustration Day. As an old song goes, Don't Worry, Be Happy!

Ocotber 13th is National No Bra Day

Boobies are Fantastic… We all think so. And what better way to express the way we feel than to support a full day of boobie freedom??
Women are magnificent creatures, and so are their breasts. Let us spend the day unleashing boobies from their boobie zoos.

Ladies, free your breasts for 24 hours by removing those dreadful (but at times oh-so-helpful) bras. Our perkiness should not be hidden. It is time that the world see what we were blessed with. Your breasts might be colossal, adorable, miniature, full, jiggly, fancy, sensitive, glistening, bouncy, smooth, tender, still blossoming, rosy, plump, fun, silky, Jello-like, fierce, jolly, nice, naughty, cuddly… But the most used word to describe your breasts today should be FREE!

Gentlemen, you can participate too! Your job will be to support us ladies by rocking something purple. It can be a purple tie, purple boxers, purple socks, the NNBD button or t-shirt.. If it is purple or with the NNBD logo, it supports us. (Your support means quite a lot to us…)

If wearing a bra on this day is absolutely necessary, you can definitly show your support by wearing something purple.

Yay for boobies!

P.S. Ladies…. Wearing a white t-shirt on this day is not only acceptable, but encouraged!

**Breast Cancer is something you should take seriously and be checked for.**

Ocotber 13th is Navy Birthday

The U.S. Navy traces its roots back to the privateers that were employed to attack British commerce in the early days of the revolution. On October 13, 1775 the Continental Congress, established a small naval force, hoping that a small navy would be able to offset the uncontested exercise of British sea power.
The early Continental navy was not expected to take on the British navy for control of the seas. This small naval force was designed to work with privateers to wage tactical raids against the transports that supplied British forces in North America. To accomplish this mission the Continental Congress purchased, converted, and constructed a fleet of small ships--frigates, brigs, sloops, and schooners. These navy ships sailed independently or in pairs hunting British commerce ships and transports like prey, avoiding whenever possible fights with Royal Navy men-of-war.

The Continental navy faced several obstacles both during and after the revolution – mostly political and economic. Two years after the end of the war, the money-poor Congress sold off the last ship of the Continental navy, the frigate Alliance.
In the 1790's Europe began to relax many mercantile commercial restrictions and the U.S. trade and the shipping industry expanded accordingly. However, as the number of U.S. ships increased so did the possibility increased attacks by the European powers and pirates. In March 1794 Congress responded by calling for the construction of a half-dozen frigates. And, once again, the United States had a navy.
Although the Continental navy was later dismantled, October 13, 1775 remains the U.S. Navy's official birthday.
From these humble beginnings, the world's most powerful naval force was born. With thousands of ships and aircraft serving worldwide, the U.S. Navy is a force to be reckoned with.
