Father-Son Duo Complete All 50 States in Their Pun-Fueled Food Map of the U.S.

From: My Modern Met
Just a little over a year ago, Chris Durso (creator of Foodiggity) and his then-8-year-old son Cameron embarked on a fun, visual collaboration known as Foodnited States of America. Together, the Durso duo planned to recreate all 50 states of the U.S. out of various, edible ingredients with a pun-fueled theme.

The project began with "New Jerky" (a lean piece of beef jerky cut into the shape of New Jersey), followed by "Kaleifornia" (a fibrous piece of kale shaped into the sunny state of California) and "Pork Lo Maine" (the northernmost state of Maine made from a carefully shaped batch of pork lo mein). From there, the father-son duo took their time rolling out each newly named state.

We marked the halfway point of this project earlier this year. Today, Chris and his son have officially completed this extraordinary project with their final state—New Pork (the concrete jungle where dreams are made of... pork). "When my son, Cameron, came to me with the idea for 'States made out of food,'" Chris explains, "it was his idea of 'New Pork' that got the ball rolling. So, although this is the last State in the series, it was the first that had a name, and was the inspiration for the entire project."

Chris also assures everyone that though the project is officially complete, it isn't the end. "The project will live on in various forms... including a complete Foodnited States map that you can hang on the wall of your choice, and each State available individually in various forms. Because, much like the actual United States, the Foodnited States are all about capitalism."

Bid Adieu To Tetú Magazine With 12 Great Covers

Au revoir, Tetú!
From: NewNowNext
We were more than a little sad about the loss of Tetú, France’s premiere gay magazine, which declared bankruptcy earlier this summer.

Founded in 1995 Tetú struggled to find a buyer after it faced serious financial troubles in the past few years.

“It’s a paradox. It should be an era of opportunities, including on the business front,” said editor-in-Cchief Yannick Barbe. Luckily, the magazine will continue to exist digitally on Tetu.com.

So let’s look back at some of our favorite covers.

The Top 30 TV Themes/Openings Of The 90’s!

Oz
Airing on HBO from July 12, 1997 – February 23, 2003, Oz was groundbreaking in its frankness dealing with prison life. Violence, sexuality, and Elliot Stabler peeing in a bucket were the major recurring themes. The NSFW opening titles perfectly convey the grittiness.

Marcus Welby, M.D. is an American medical drama television program that aired on ABC from September 23, 1969, to July 29, 1976. It starred Robert Young as a family practitioner with a kind bedside manner and James Brolin as the younger doctor he often worked with, and was produced by David Victor and David J. O'Connell. The pilot, A Matter of Humanities, had aired as an ABC Movie of the Week on March 26, 1969.
As with most medical dramas of the day, the plots often concerned a professional conflict between well-meaning physicians. Here, Dr. Welby's unorthodox way of treating patients was pitted against the more strait-laced methods of Dr. Steven Kiley (James Brolin). The catch with this particular program was that the roles were reversed in that Dr. Kiley was much younger than Dr. Welby. In the similar series Medical Center, it is the older doctor who is more orthodox and the younger who is radical. The opening credits of "Welby" for each episode reminded viewers of the generation gap between the two doctors, Welby driving his long sedan and Kiley riding a motorcycle. Welby had served in the US Navy as a doctor during the war, and was a widower. He owned a sail boat and enjoyed the ocean.
The doctors worked alongside each other in their private practice in Santa Monica, California, regularly working in conjunction with the nearby Lang Memorial Hospital. (This was later revealed in exterior shots to be the real-life St. John's Hospital and Health Center in Santa Monica, California now renamed simply as Saint John's Health Center.) At the office, their loyal secretary-nurse and friend, and Welby's hinted at secret lover was Consuelo Lopez (Elena Verdugo). Other characters that appeared throughout the years included Dr. Welby's frequent girlfriend Myra Sherwood (Anne Baxter), his daughter Sandy and her son Phil (first Christine Belford, then Anne Schedeen, as Sandy and Gavin Brendan as Phil), and Kathleen Faverty (Sharon Gless), another secretary. Dr. Kiley met and married public relations director Janet Blake (Pamela Hensley) in 1975, at the beginning of the show's last season on the air.
In the episode Designs which aired on March 12, 1974. Young was reunited with his Father Knows Best co-star, Jane Wyatt; she played a fashion designer whose marriage to an embittered paraplegic led her to fall in love with the gentle doctor while keeping her marriage a secret most of the episode.

“Strangers Like Me”
Tarzan
How it relates: More often than not, the closet can leave you feeling as if there aren’t many people who understand you. Some people grow up in such small towns where other queer people, if there are any, are also closeted. “Strangers Like Me” speaks to the real curiosity you could feel after meeting a queer person for the first time or watching one on television. It’s like you are seeing yourself reflected in someone else for the first time.
Takeaway lyric:
“I can see there’s so much to learn
It’s all so close and yet so far
I see myself as people see me
Oh, I just know there’s something bigger out there"

All the Better to Eat You With:

Ua by FIBK
From: Favorite Hunks & Other Things
'The wolf thought to himself: 'What a tender young creature! what a nice plump mouthful - He will be better to eat than the old woman. I must act craftily, so as to catch both.'
Brothers Grimm

Given FH is story based, how could I possibly pass up a shoot inspired by the tales of two of the greatest storytellers of all time. This is not the first time I have presented work based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tell featuring the cape as red as blood, I did an entire day devoted to the fairy tales weaved within Into The Woods this past January. When I recently saw FIBK's version of Red, I knew that there was something new and unique I wanted to explore. Ken's images are visually rich and colorful and his Red, an erotically enchanting woods dweller, seems more than capable of not only handling, but even welcoming, any wolves that cross his path.
'I've been in fascinated with photography since I was a child. The idea of capturing a single moment in time, to save forever, has always captivated me.'

Ken (FIBK)

Ken's Red is beautifully inhabited by model Ua. Both are members of a small and exclusive on-line group specifically for models and photographers to meet, share ideas and make connections. Ken shares that during the group's beginnings, several members expressed interest in doing a fairy tale themed shoot. 'A lot of ideas were presented, and the one that really stuck with me was Little Red Riding Hood. I new from the beginning that I wanted "Red" to be portrayed by an adult male as I almost exclusively shoot male models.'

For Ken's idea to become a reality and come to life, he need just the right model, wardrobe, props and location. He contacted a friend he knew was great at making costumes and his friend agreed to design and create the hooded cape. Another friend of Ken's agreed to let him use his wooded property for the location. All that was left now was finding the perfect model to inhabit Ken's vision of Red.

'I presented my idea of a slightly erotic, grown up male version of Red Riding Hood to the group, and asked if any models were interested in playing the part. I was delighted when Ua responded to express his interest! Ua and I met a couple of weeks before the shoot to test the hooded cape and work out the minor details for the shoot, and set a date and time. I have to say that I am very pleased with the results! As a model, Ua was fantastic to work with. He was quite adept and maintaining a pose, very enthusiastic regarding the theme, and very comfortable in front of the camera.'

As you can see from the final images, everything on Ken's list came together perfectly. The red cape visually draws you in and Ken surrounds Ua and his cape with lush colorful visuals. From the basket, bread and apples, and the location which couldn't be more perfect if it were designed specifically for the story. Ua makes the perfect Red, his incredible body would most certainly lure any hungry wolf, but Ua also moves elegantly with the cape and his face and beautiful eyes all blend to perfectly complete Ken's vision and story.
