7 Queer Films That Should Have Been Nominated For An Oscar This Year

From: NewNowNext
For another look at the judicial system, watch Free CeCe, from executive producer Laverne Cox. In 2011, CeCe McDonald, a transgender woman of color, was charged with second-degree murder after fighting back against an assailant attacking her and her friends.

Accepting a plea bargain of second-degree manslaughter, she spent the next 19 months in a men’s prison, where she was frequently placed in solitary confinement (supposedly for her own protection). Filmmaker Jacqueline Gares (In the Life) chronicles McDonald’s struggle, as well as the day she was released in 2014.

CNN Captures Donald Trump Watching A Blaring Television On Air Force One Instead Of Doing His Job

From: Queerty
This just in: Donald Trump’s TV-binging habits are here to stay.

Not only did the New York Times write a whole feature detailing his daily television watching schedule, which includes three hours every morning plus several more hours in the evening, but his aides have been complaining that he won’t stop turning on cable news and obsessing over what people think about him, a claim that seems to be corroborated by his constant whining to the press, who he hates, about what other people (politicians, journalists, celebrities, random folks on Twitter, etc.) are saying about him.

Now, CNN inadvertently captured an example of the Jolly Orange Giant’s obsession when they cut to him riding Air Force One only to discover that, instead of doing his job, he was blabbing to reporters about how “really beautiful” and “great” the airplane was while a television set blared commercials in the background at a near-deafening volume.

That’s right. The 70-year-old leader of the free word (cringe) couldn’t even turn it off (or down) for five minutes to talk to reporters.

Watch the painfully awkward clip below. And, remember, call 800-588-2300 Empire today.

Church Of England Refuses To Budge On Same-Sex Marriage Ban

But church leaders insist they want "maximum freedom" for LGBT clergy
From: NewNowNext
The Church of England, which was literally founded so Henry VIII could redefine marriage, has reaffirmed its opposition to marriage equality in a document released Friday.

A report from the House of Bishops said the Church should adopt a “fresh tone and culture of welcome and support” toward LGBT people, and offer gay clergy “maximum freedom,” but maintains the doctrine of marriage as between one man and one woman.

Bishop Graham Jones said the document, which will be considered by the general Synod in February, was needed to help the Church with “adopting to fashions.”

Under the new plan, clergy members would have more leniency in celebrating same-sex unions. Asked whether priests would be reprimanded for blessing a same-sex marriage, Bishop Pete Broadbent said “individual cases will be treated individually.”

Currently, gay and lesbian clergy are asked to remain celibate when they change jobs or request promotion to Bishop. Should the motion be ratified, though, priests would no longer face probing questions about their personal lives.

Critics say this does little to change the current state of affairs, and simply creates a Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy in the Church of England.

Labour MP Ben Bradshaw, who is in a civil partnership, told the Sunday Times the new proposal “is based essentially on dishonesty and encouraging clergy to lie.”

And out Christian broadcaster Vicky Beeching said it “requires serious mental and emotional gymnastics to hold together.”

“For LGBT Christians this isn’t a piece of paper, it’s our lives,” said Beeching, who came out in 2014. “I can personally say that for me, documents like this affect my physical and mental well being on a deep level. It’s very painful to love Jesus, love the church, and yet feel rejected and like a second-class citizen because I’m gay.”

The Anglican Communion has long struggled with the issue of homosexuality: In 1998, Anglican bishops passed a resolution stating that homosexual acts were “incompatible with Scripture.” Just four years later the Anglican Church of Canada began permitted the blessing of same-sex unions—and voted last year to approve marriage equality.

In 2003, Gene Robinson was elected the first openly gay bishop in the Anglican Church. His ordination led to an ongoing schism, fueled by more conservative diocese in Africa and elsewhere.

Quebec City Mosque Gunman Was Right-Wing Troll, Trump Fan

From: kenneth in the (212)
What a shocker. The Globe and Mail reports that the suspect in the attack on a Quebec City mosque that left six dead was known in the city's activist circles as a right-wing troll who frequently took anti-foreigner and anti-feminist positions and stood up for U.S. President Donald Trump. Alexandre Bissonnette appeared to have become radicalized in March 2016, following a visit to Quebec City by French nationalist Marine Le Pen, who was France's Donald Trump before he was even ours. Bissonnette's Facebook profile was removed from public view Monday morning along with the comments he left behind. Before Le Pen's visit, Bissonnette's friends say he showed little interest in politics, despite studying the subject at Laval University. Oh, joy.

How did the "president" react to the news? Following a call by Trump to offer condolences and police assistance to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, his spokesman took to the podium to twist the tragedy into a defense of Trump's ban on Muslims. "It's a terrible reminder of why we must remain vigilant. And why the president is taking steps to be proactive, not reactive,'' Spicer said Monday, without acknowledging the shooter's love for his boss.

Trump Fires Acting Attorney General After She Defies Him on Immigration Ban

From: kenneth in the (212)
You could call it the Monday Night Massacre -- I call it the birth of a hero:

The Wall Street Journal reports:
The White House on Monday fired acting Attorney General Sally Yates for telling government lawyers not to defend an executive order signed by President Donald Trump suspending immigration from seven countries out of concerns that terrorists from those countries might enter the U.S. Ms. Yates learned of her firing Monday evening, in a letter from the White House hand-delivered to her office, according to a person familiar with the matter. In a statement, the White House said Ms. Yates “has betrayed the Department of Justice by refusing to enforce a legal order designed to protect the citizens of the United States.” Dana Boente, the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, will be acting attorney general until Mr. Trump’s attorney general nominee, Jeff Sessions, is confirmed by the U.S. Senate, which could happen next week.
Worth noting that Sally Yates was confirmed as deputy A.G. by a Republican Senate 84-12. Republicans cited her willingness to be independent as her strength. Sen. Bob Casey tweeted, "Sally Yates did not betray the Justice Department, she honored its greatest traditions by defending our Constitution."

Hear! Hear!

Ironically, incoming attorney general Jeff Sessions asked Yates during her Senate confirmation hearing in 2015 if she should say no to an unlawful executive order. Hear what she said HERE.

Sources Claim Trump Is Readying Anti-LGBT Executive Order

"We won't give one inch when it comes to defending equality," says HRC's JoDee Winterhof.
From: NewNowNext
While progressives scramble to address President Trump’s executive order banning refugees from Muslim countries, sources are claiming his next fiat will undo protections for LGBT Americans put in place by President Obama.

LGBTQ Nation reports that sources indicate the order will “allow for discrimination in a number of areas, including employment, social services, business, and adoption.”

Expected to come in the Trojan horse of “religious freedom,” it could allow federal contractors to discriminate against LGBT employees, enable marriage clerks to refuse to provide marriage licenses to gay couples, or allow adoption agencies that discriminate against same-sex parents to resume federal funding.

“The rumors of an anti-LGBTQ executive action by President Trump are deeply troubling,” JoDee Winterhof, the Human Rights Campaign‘s Senior Vice President for Policy and Political Affair, said in a statement on the group’s site.

“We already know that he is willing to target and marginalize at-risk communities for his perceived political gain. As the President and his team plan their next steps, we want to make one thing clear: we won’t give one inch when it comes to defending equality, whether it is a full-on frontal assault or an attack under the guise of religion.”

Winterhof added that HRC “will stand with those who have already been targeted by this administration and are prepared to fight tooth and nail against every effort to discriminate.”

Congressional Republicans have already committed to refiling the First Amendment Defense Act, which would protect businesses and individuals who discriminate against LGBT Americans. President Trump has said he would sign FADA, but an executive order would do away with the need for a vote.

Asked about the order, Trump press secretary Sean Spicer refused to comment.

“Moonlight,” “Black-ish,” “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” Teen Vogue Nominated For GLAAD Media Awards

"It is imperative that Hollywood tell more LGBTQ stories that reflect the community’s rich diversity."
From: NewNowNext
The nominees for the 28th annual GLAAD Media Awards were announced this morning, reflecting films, television programs, comic books, musicians, news outlets and more that represent the breadth and diversity LGBT experience.

For the first time in more than a decade, the Outstanding Film (wide release) category had just two nominees—Moonlight and Star Trek Beyond. On the plus side, Outstanding Music Artist and Outstanding Comic Book were expanded to ten nominees to reflect the growing inclusion in those fields.

Once again, television leads the pack with nuanced and varied representations: Nominees on the small screen include ABC’s The Real O’Neals and Black-ish; The CW’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Supergirl, Netflix’s The OA, Grace and Frankie and Black Mirror, as well as Cartoon Network’s Steven Universe and Nickelodeon’s The Loud House.

“At a time when progress is at a critical juncture, it is imperative that Hollywood tell more LGBTQ stories that reflect the community’s rich diversity—and build understanding that brings all communities closer together,” said GLAAD President Sarah Kate Ellis.

“This year’s nominees have created images and story lines that challenge misconceptions and broaden understanding, accelerating acceptance and equality for LGBTQ people across the globe.”

In all, GLAAD announced 115 nominees in 21 English-language categories and 41 Spanish-language nominees in 11 categories. The GLAAD Media Awards will be held in Los Angeles on April 1 at The Beverly Hilton, and in New York on May 6 at the New York Hilton Midtown. .

National Pride March is Sunday, June 11 in DC

From: BosGuy
I was inspired by the show of unity and the incredible numbers The Women’s March in D.C. and around the nation commanded earlier this month. I believe very strongly in the right to freedom of speech and assembly so when I heard about the National Pride March in Washington, D.C. in June Sergio and I decided we would skip Boston Pride, which happens the same weekend to travel to D.C. and add our voices to the chorus of protests.

I hope to see you in DC or marching in your home city this June

For those from Boston contemplating a similar trip, we were able to purchase American Airlines nonstop tickets for $153.00. Numerous affordable AirBnB options are also available if hotel room prices are too steep.

I hope this march inspires Pride celebrations across the United States to reach out beyond the LGBTQ community and draw in others to help make our voices heard through out the month of June. For those who in the past have reflected on the relevance of Pride and asked if it is still needed, I hope the disturbing rhetoric coming from 1600 Pennsylvania Ave makes it perfectly clear that Pride events remain relevant and important for our community

If you have not already, contact your representatives in D.C.

Click here to contact your Representative in the U.S. House of Representatives

Click here to contact your Senator in the U.S. Senate

Regardless of the position of your elected representative (supportive of LGBTQ issues / community or not) never underestimate the impact your call will have.

MICAH BRANDT AND JOHNNY V

From: Manhunt Daily
Johnny V is having a helluva week. (I realize he probably didn’t film the two scenes of his I’m highlighting this week during the same time period but work with me). Just the other day, “The Blonde Flattop” was tapping Michael DelRay’s (Del Ray?) ass. Today, he’s got the sex monster known as Micah Brandt up his ass. These two are a match! Micah sinks his girthy cock into Johnny’s butt and it’s like he’s coming home. Er, cumming home? There’s more below and even more (and the rest of the “Depths of Focus” series) over at Hot House. They really should change their name to “House of Beef.”
