Classic Television - Late Night

In Concert
Original channel
ABC
Original Run
November 24, 1972 - 1975
Hosted by
Don Branker
In Concert is a late-night television series created by Don Kirshner. Hosted by Don Branker, the series was a showcase for bands of the era to be taped "in concert" and then broadcast on ABC on Friday nights.

The series premiered on November 24, 1972, preempting The Dick Cavett Show. The first episode was the broadcast of a concert taped at Hofstra University on September 21, 1972 with Alice Cooper, Bo Diddley and Seals & Crofts. The second episode, broadcast on December 8, 1972 and again preempting Cavett, featured The Allman Brothers Band and Chuck Berry. David Sontag became the Executive Producer of "In Concert" starting with the 3rd show and for the rest of the first season. Don Kirshner had no direct connection with the show after the second episode except that the production credits listed "In Concert" as a David Sontag Production and a Don Kirshner Production. Starting with the 3rd episode there was no host; Joshua White (Joshua Lightshow) became the director and the voice-over announcing the acts, and serving as the production stage manager was Chip Monk, often known as the voice of Woodstock.

In January 1973, both The Dick Cavett Show and In Concert became part of ABC's Wide World of Entertainment programming block. Kirshner left in late 1973 to produce the syndicated series Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. In Concert continued to appear approximately every other Friday night until 1975 when it left the ABC schedule.

During its three seasons on the air, the series received four Primetime Emmy awards.

The Hottest Men in Baseball 2013

Age 23
Segura debuted with the L.A. Angels in July 2012, but after only one game, he was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers, where he has excelled. This season, he was involved in one of the most confusing plays ever in baseball history. In the eighth inning of an April game, he stole second base, then “re-stole” first base, and was thrown out trying to steal second base again. The confusion was over whether Segura should have been allowed to “re-take” first base after he had occupied second base. Umpires on the field allowed it, but the MLB later declared the ruling wrong.

he’s alright and he don’t care, he’s got thermal underwear (repeat several times)

To get super meta here for a second. We love this song. But we really love the need to annotate how often we have to repeat thermal underwear when singing the song: Several times. Noted.

The Magic Garden
Original channel
WPIX-11
Original run
March 6, 1972 – September 6, 1984
Starring
Carole Demas
Paula Janis
The Magic Garden is a live action children's television program which aired Mondays through Thursdays from March 6, 1972 to September 6, 1984 on WPIX-11 in New York City. Produced and broadcast in the world's largest television market, the show became popular with millions of children.

Carole and Paula, the main characters and hosts of the show, sing several songs throughout each episode, often accompanied by Paula's acoustic guitar. The show takes place entirely within the Magic Garden, a colorful set that includes the Magic Tree, which lowers various objects from its branches. Also found throughout the garden are swings, a stone path, a shed, and the Chuckle Patch, a giggling bed of flowers that grows leaves with jokes on one side and the punch line on the other. Many conversations take place at a low stone wall with Sherlock (a mischievous squirrel puppet with a love for peanuts) and Flapper (a colorful bird who was a later addition to the characters in the garden). Stories are often acted out using costumes and props provided by the Story Box. In addition to songs, games, and jokes, the characters provide life lessons for viewers, and extend personal greetings to members of their television audience – for example: "Hello Judy. Hello Jeffrey."

As characterized by The New York Times, The Magic Garden "was a cheerful, low-budget, inadvertently psychedelic half-hour show in which Ms. Janis and Ms. Demas sat on giant toadstools, spoke to flowers, sang songs and told stories."

Favorite Classic Playgirl Guy for July 4th

 Scott Dutton
From: Favorite Hunks & Other Things
Must say I love looking at pics from Playgirl from the 70's and 80's. This was before metrosexual was a known term and plucking, shaving and tanning were popular. Scott Dutton, Playgirl, January 79 is a great example of a hot man without all the extra primping. Love the tan lines, shaggy hair and unshaved look.
